Recurrent / Overuse Injuries

Do you have an injury that won’t go away?
Injuries to the body can be divided into two main categories:
Traumatic
Slip, fall, collision that occur suddenly and usually involve a lot of force
Overuse
Repetitive micro traumas that occur over a longer period of time
A large percentage of the people that seek our help fall into the second category because these are often the ones that sneak up on us. Waking up with a stiff neck after sleeping funny or feeling our back “let go” when lifting the washing basket often have an underlying overuse injury at their source.
Imagine what happens if you take a paperclip and repetitively bend it or let a tarp flap in the wind. Eventually they start to break down and before you know it, you have a problem.
Our bodies can be subjected to the same types of stresses and are particularly common in the following industries that involve a lot of repetitive movements:
- Building trades
- Hospitality
- Retail
- Professional drivers such as taxi’s, Uber and truckers
- Desk workers
- Child and Aged care
Our chiropractors can help identify what activity is causing the problem, if possible help you modify it and then teach your body how to build greater resistance to the repetitive stress.
